Rock Paper Scissors Events was formally founded in January 2010 in New York City. Ara Farnam-Levinson has been the rock of RPS since it’s inception. Over the last decade, our team has grown to include a roster of loyal and talented creatives on both coasts, including lead designers, associate designers and set-up staff.

Right out of college, Ara moved to London because ADVENTURE! With no plans and a B.A. in History from UCLA, she thought she might be a receptionist somewhere for a year, date some cute British guys, and make some lifelong memories before coming back to the states to find a “real job.” Luckily, fate or kismet or the Universe stepped in and Ara landed a job at global interior design icon de Gournay where she worked her way up from ordering office supplies to overseeing several US Showrooms and eventually moving to NYC to found the company’s first American showroom.

In 2009 after six years at de Gournay, Ara felt the itch to move on and start her own thing. At the same time, several friends were getting married, and Ara started doing friends’ weddings and then fairly quickly realized she had something of real value to offer and maybe people would pay her to do this (?!). So with a bit of savings and a quick prayer, she quit her job at de Gournay and started Rock Paper Scissors Events.

After a couple years doing weddings, she additionally started doing some corporate work for the wedding industry along with some editorial styling work. This built up enough of a portfolio that one day Google called and they actually hired her and her one associate at the time. Then Edelman Public Relations called and they actually hired RPS, too. From there the corporate work and the team both really took off, and RPS was off to the races.

As more and more and more referrals came in, corporate work started to dominate our workload, specifically experiential PR launch events and highly branded corporate events and conferences.

And now, post-pandemic, we have come full circle to wanting to do more in the wedding space. We have a new program for using the momentum of change unique to this moment to craft a fresh way to approach weddings to make them more meaningful and transformative. More meaning, less stress. It’s possible, and Ara really wants to talk to you about your wedding.
